About Us
Farmers Alliance for Restoration is a project of California-based non-profit Empowerment WORKS, and an approved international project of the Permaculture Association (Britain).
Originally known as permEzone, we ran a pilot program in East Africa, with two projects in Kenya and one in Uganda, under the guidance and oversight of a volunteer project board and advisory council.
Farmers Alliance for Restoration-East Africa has been registered in Kenya as an international NGO that can also operate in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. We are currently evaluating different options for developing the capacity to achieve the program's full potential, across East Africa and beyond.
The ideas that inspired the permEzone pilot ring just as true today as they did seven years ago when we started the first pilot project. We've spent the intervening period proving the concept and refining the service model to maximize the benefits to as many people as possible with the limited resources at our disposal. We are now confident from the outcomes of our three pilot projects that this approach works, and that we are ready to scale it up to serve many more communities of smallholder farmers in future.
